Kings - Carrot Chantenay Red Cored Seeds
Description
Highly recommended variety for early maincrop. Stump rooted, excellent colour and texture. Smooth skin, small core and tastes good too!
Seed Count: 2,000
WHEN TO SOW
March to May
WHERE TO SOW
Sow thinly direct into the growing site 1.5cm (3/4″) deep in rows 30cm (2″/3″) apart. If possible sow carefully so that thinning is not necessary. Traditionally seed is mixed with fine dry sand to prevent sowing too thickly.
WHAT TO DO NEXT
If you have to thin the seedlings, do so in the evening. Water before thinning and remove all debris. Do not transplant. Aim for roots 4-6 cm (2-3″) apart. Young carrots can be pulled alternately to “thin” as you eat.
MATURITY
July onwards
HANDY TIP
A good variety for an early exhibition use, Try making holes with a bar, filling with compost and sowing seed for the large specimen carrots. Try not to grow on freshly manured grounds as this can produce forking of roots.
