The first of the “cut and come again” types to arrive in our gardens. Bright green serrated leaves form large heads. Gives a different texture to salads.

March to July

WHERE TO SOW

Early sowings under glass at 13°C either in trays or modules. Later sowings direct in growing site 1cm (½”) deep with 30 cm (12″) between rows.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

Early sowings should be thinned as they grow, modules thinned to single seedlings to a cell, and hardened off quickly before planting out 30cm (12″) apart each way. Thin outdoor sowings to 30cm (12″) apart.

8-10 weeks from sowing

HANDY TIP

Even ‘cut and come again’ types won’t last all Summer, so sow new supplies at fortnightly intervals.
