Description

The traditional “Spring” onion. Long white stems with bright green tops which are slow to form a bulb. Mild flavour. Sow from March to July.

WHERE TO SOW

Early sowings in a cold frame or under cloches 1cm (½”) deep. Later sowings in rows 1cm (½”) deep with 20cm (8″) between rows.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

Salad or Spring Onions do not need transplanting or thinning. Remove cloches or frame cover by mid-April. Pull alternate Onions to naturally thin the crop during the season.

HANDY TIPS

Ideal for successional sowing for all Summer crop. As they are in the garden for such a short time, they can be grown in between slower growing vegetables.

NUTRITIONAL VALUE

Antibacterial and Antiseptic properties, due to beneficial sulphur compounds. A good source of antioxidants, such as quercetin and anthocyanin.
